The previous holder of this title was Sony Santa Monica’s God of War, which was not released simultaneously on PC and PlayStation consoles but still reached 73,529 concurrent players at launch, according to SteamDB.
Helldivers 2’s peak player count could be even higher than that, given the issues it encountered at launch yesterday. Arrowhead Game Studios’ CEO said the developer was in “crisis mode” trying to fix matchmaking and server issues, and even took the servers completely offline at one point to fix things.
It looks like things are back under control for the Helldivers 2 servers, at least judging by what’s being said online. Now that all the issues with yesterday’s launch have finally been resolved, perhaps more players can get into the new shooter this weekend.
