Gel that converts alcohol into harmless acetic acid
Scientists at ETH Zurich have developed a protein-based gel that neutralizes alcohol in the gastrointestinal tract, without harming the body. In the future, people taking this gel will be able to reduce the harmful and intoxicating effects of alcohol. Researchers at ETH Zurich have developed a gel made of whey protein fibrils that converts alcohol into harmless acetic acid in the intestines. This gel protects the body from damage by reducing blood alcohol levels in mice by up to 50%.
