Google Maps’ forest fire tracking feature came to Turkey

With this feature, Google aims to protect users living in areas close to fire from fire. Thanks to real-time data, you can follow the fire’s spread live. Notifications are sent from the application to users in the area where the fire is approaching, warning them about the fire danger. If there is a fire hazard on the route you have created, alternative routes are created.

Google’s AI-powered wildfire monitoring model uses AI to analyze a variety of satellite images, including data provided by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s four GOES satellites. Since it is supported by artificial intelligence, more accurate and precise results are obtained from using only satellite images. Fire boundaries are prepared based on actual data, based on measurements from past wildfire events. Although Google states that the fire tracking feature works in “real time”, let us state that the data may be delayed due to the frequency of data received from satellites.

Rising temperatures around the world trigger forest fires. Since the first days of summer, many forest fires have occurred in Turkey and regions close to Turkey. 1.4 million users viewed fire information on Google and Google Maps in July. Google produced a live map of more than 40 summer fires in Southern Europe last month.
