Google’s Chromecast lineup has so far largely focused on making it easier to watch favorite content on the big screen. However, this is changing with the new Google TV Streamer. Finally having a “real” set-top box for watching content, Google also supports a much wider range of smart home controls.
The biggest innovation of Google TV Streamer is that it has transformed from a simple device plugged into a television into a truly standalone device that appears in the media console. It becomes easier to control Google TV Streamer with the remote control, which harmonizes with the general decoration of the room with its “Wedge” shaped design. In addition, communication with other smart home devices becomes easier.
It should also be noted that Google has made a serious leap forward in terms of hardware in TV Streamer. Compared to the Chromecast with Google TV released in 2020, users expect a 22 percent faster CPU, twice as much RAM (4 GB instead of 2 GB) and four cards more storage space (32 GB).
These improvements may not seem like much. However, considering that there was a lack of space in downloading online platform applications in the previous model, it can be said that it is a needed improvement. The tablet comes with 4k 60 fps image support and also has HDR, Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos and spatial audio support (when paired with Google Pixel Buds).
For those who want the highest bandwidth in Google TV Streamer, there is also an HDMI 1.1 input, a reinforced USB-C port, and a dedicated Ethernet slot. Google extended the length of the remote control and moved the volume on/off button to the top; added a customizable button that can be set to launch your favorite app, switch inputs, or summon the new smart home control center. There is also a special button on the remote control for Google Assistant.
Google TV Streamer also offers a more advanced experience in smart home features. Not only does it support Matter, but it also has a built-in Thread border router to easily communicate with other devices in your home. On top of that, the TV Streamer gets its own version of the Google Home panel (which we’ve seen on previous Pixel phones and Nest Hubs) that makes it easy to set up things like smart lights while also providing the ability to view feeds from your security cameras and video doorbells.
Artificial intelligence features also await users in Google TV Streamer. Thanks to Gemini, TV Streamer can create specific recommendations based on the type of content you watch and produce summaries, reviews or even season-by-season breakdowns for content you haven’t watched. It also offers an ambient TV mode that lets you capture screensavers or memories from your Google Photos library. However, if you want something a little more unique, it’s also possible to enlist the help of AI to produce something fantastic. By the way, if you lose the remote control, you can ask Google Assistant (not Gemini) to help you find it or press the special button on the back of the box.
How much should you pay for Google TV Streamer?
