Competition Authority, ‘Google Advertising and Marketing Ltd.’, briefly known as Google. Şti. has completed its investigation into the economic integrity of Google International LLC, Google LLC, Google Ireland Limited and Alphabet Inc. The technology giant, which was found to have violated Article 6 of the Competition Law, was given an administrative fine of 2 billion 607 million TL.

According to the decision announced by the board, it was determined that Google abused its dominant position in online advertising technology services. The company was found to be restricting access to advertising inventory and favoring its own services through the video sharing platform YouTube. It was stated that this situation made the activities of competitors difficult and negatively affected competition in the market.
However, it was stated that no violation was detected in terms of allegations regarding Google’s demand side platforms (DSP), and no administrative fines were imposed in this area.
Competition Authoritystated that Google must provide equal conditions to third-party platforms within 6 months. It was stated that if the company does not fulfill these obligations as of the notification of the reasoned decision, a daily administrative fine will be imposed. The period and obligations granted to the company aim to re-establish effective competition in the market.
Google has the right to object to the Ankara Administrative Courts within 60 days from the notification of the decision. This decision of the Competition Board is seen as an important sign that the activities of technology giants in the online advertising market will be more strictly supervised.
