Google’s Find My Device app is improving

It is claimed that ultra-wideband (UWB) and augmented reality (AR) features will be added to Google’s Find My Device application. These innovations will make it easier to find lost or stolen devices. Find My Device service helps Android users find their lost devices via Bluetooth. It is thought that the new features will make it possible to find devices precisely. These claims emerged during the review of the APK file of the Android version of the application.

According to a report jointly prepared by Android Authority and tipster Assemble Debug, hints of UWB features were found in the APK review of the Find My Device app version 3.1.078-1. UWBAdapter libraries were found in the application’s code. This feature can make it possible to find devices more precisely.

Apple, one of Google’s biggest competitors, offers the opportunity to precisely locate lost or stolen items by using UWB technology in its AirTags. This technology can provide directions up to a few meters away from the device and helps pinpoint the device. Google is not using this technology yet, but it is stated that it may start using it soon.

The report states that in addition to UWB, AR technology can also be integrated into the Find My Device application. The app’s code also includes ARCore support, which allows developers to create augmented reality experiences. According to Google, ARCore enables interacting with information using the device’s sensors and APIs.

However, it is not yet clear how these technologies will improve the Find My Device app. According to the report, the device can be located precisely with UWB, and the user can get directions with AR overlays by turning on the device’s camera.

It is stated that both features are still under development and there is no definitive information about when they will be available. Even if Google introduces these features, they may first be offered to a limited user base with the beta version of the app.
