Artificial intelligence will diagnose eye diseases
In the research conducted, OpenAI GPT-3.5, GPT-4 Google with its models PaLM 2 and Meta’s LLaMA artificial intelligence models With 87 multiple choice questions tested. Five specialist ophthalmologists, three trainee ophthalmologists and two junior non-specialist doctors also participated in these tests. The questions posed to humans and AI models were taken from a textbook prepared to test trainees on everything from light sensitivity to lesions. Since the content of this book is not publicly available, researchers believe that artificial intelligence models are not prepared for these questions.
Although these results open the door to potential benefits, they also bring with them some risks and concerns. After all, a limited number of questions were asked in this study and situations may be different in real-world conditions. However, there is still a tendency for all LLMs, namely AI models, to “hallucinate” or make things up. Therefore, GPT 4 or another model may look at the redness in your eye and claim that you have cancer. On the other hand, artificial intelligence models can be used to detect and diagnose diseases by becoming as specialized as humans in some medical fields.
