Kia expanded its electric vehicle portfolio at the Los Angeles Auto Show and introduced the high-performance EV9 GT model. This new model aims to strengthen the brand’s claim in the electric SUV segment.
Equipped with an engine of over 500 horsepower, the EV9 GT can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.3 seconds. With these features, Kia describes the EV9 GT as the most powerful three-row SUV model ever. The vehicle draws attention with its dual-motor structure and offers an electronically controlled suspension system depending on the driving mode. GT Mode, activated by the green GT button on the steering wheel, provides a more dynamic driving experience by setting the suspension to its stiffest setting.
The EV9 GT simulates the traditional automatic transmission experience with its virtual gear shifting system. This system adds a realistic touch to driving with fake engine sounds and noticeable gear shifts during acceleration. It is also possible to switch gears manually via the pedals on both sides of the steering wheel. In addition, Active Sound Design (e-ASD) technology provides sound effects compatible with the virtual gear system, making the sound of gear shifts more realistic when the vehicle accelerates.
Some innovations also stand out in the exterior design of the EV9 GT. Special 21-inch alloy wheels, Continental high-performance tires and neon green brake calipers attract attention. The interior features GT-specific lighting and digital graphics.
The 2025 Kia EV9 GT will be Kia’s first model to feature Tesla’s North American Charging System (NACS) port. In this way, vehicle owners will be able to use more than 15,000 Tesla Supercharger stations without requiring an adapter. Hyundai also announced the same charging support in the 2025 Ioniq 5 model. This shows that South Korean automakers are quickly adapting to new charging standards.
In addition to the EV9 GT, Kia also introduced the refreshed 2025 EV6 model. This model will be offered with a larger battery as well as a NACS port. In addition to the standard battery with a capacity of 63 kWh, an optional battery option of 84 kWh will also be available. This new battery aims to offer a range of approximately 514 kilometers in the rear-wheel drive version.
The 2025 EV6 will be built at Hyundai and Kia’s Metaplant facility in Georgia and could benefit from the $7,500 tax credit currently available in the US. On the other hand, it is stated that the EV9 GT will be produced in South Korea and will be released towards the end of 2025. Price information for both models will be announced closer to the production date. With these moves, Kia aims to gain a strong position in the electric vehicle market.
