Honda announced the advancements it has made in its next-generation e:HEV hybrid system. The Japanese automotive giant is taking firm steps towards its goal of reaching carbon neutrality by 2050 and generating all its global sales from electric vehicles by 2040. So, what is the e:HEV system? What will the new system offer? Details are in our news…
Firstly, the e:HEV hybrid system offers a two-motor structure, providing a balance between environmental efficiency and driving experience. The system comes with smooth performance and impressive power, and supports three driving modes: EV Driving (using energy only from the battery), Hybrid Driving (the engine produces electricity) and Direct Driving (the engine is directly connected to the wheels, providing efficiency at high speeds).
Significant improvements will be made in Honda’s new generation models. In particular, the new Atkinson cycle 1.5 and 2.0 liter engines will comply with global environmental standards by offering more efficient fuel consumption and lower emissions. Fuel economy on 1.5-litre engines will be increased by up to 40%, resulting in a 10% improvement in overall efficiency compared to current models.
Honda says that it will offer a more direct and impressive driving experience with the S+ Shift gear system, which will be introduced in 2025. In addition, the new mid-size platform will increase maneuverability by reducing the total weight of the vehicle by 90 kg. This platform will offer 10% lightness thanks to its modular design.
Honda is also developing the E-AWD electric powertrain system that can be used in hybrid and electric vehicles. It is said that this system is designed to provide maximum traction and stability in all kinds of terrain conditions. Great progress has also been made in the production optimization process. For example, since 2018, there has been a 25% reduction in production costs for the hybrid Accord. The goal is to further reduce costs by 50% by 2027.
