How to make the Photos app more useful? Here is the guide

With iOS 18, Apple made a major design change in the Photos app and completely revamped the old layout. The app’s tabbed navigation bar has been removed and everything has been consolidated into a single screen, causing confusion for some users. However, it seems that this change will not be reverted and returned to the old design, so some adjustments may be made to make it easier to adopt the new layout.

First, in the Photos app, if you haven’t already done so, go to the bottom of the screen and click “Edit.” From here, you can move the features you use frequently to the top of the app. This section includes options such as “Last Days,” “Albums,” “People & Animals,” “Memories,” and “Pinned Collections.” “Pinned Collections” can be a bit confusing because this section has a second customizable interface that offers similar options as the main app; but you can think of it like a “container folder” to put frequently used content like screenshots or specific albums.

You can drag and drop sections in the Photos app, so you can rearrange their order. You can also hide some collections from the app. For example, if you don’t want to see items like “Featured Photos,” “Wallpaper Suggestions,” or “Trips,” you can hide them from the listing by unchecking them. If you find the “Pinned Collections” section unnecessary, you can hide it too.

If you haven’t spent time using the Photos app, you may not have discovered filters. You can see filter options by scrolling down through your entire photo library within the app. Here you can sort by options such as photos, videos, edited images, screenshots and favorites; You can also sort by recently added or taken photos. There are also options to extract screenshots and “Shared With You” images from your main photo library.

The new Photos app isn’t entirely bad. The search feature has improved greatly, and you can do pretty specific searches like “plants in Florida” or “Eric in the blue shirt.”
