Huawei and MediaTek Issue is Being Taken to Judiciary

The simmering patent dispute between tech giants Huawei and MediaTek is expected to go to court, according to a new report from DigiTimes.

The two companies have been suing since July over alleged patent infringement related to cellular network technologies, including 4G and 5G.

Specific details of the cases and exact court dates remain unclear from the official parties, but DigiTimes now says the case will be officially heard after October 25.

It is reported that the reason for the dispute stems from the licensing agreement. Chinese technology giant Huawei holds a significant portfolio of standard essential patents (SEPs) vital for wireless communications and holds approximately 20% of the world’s 5G patents.

Huawei receives a certain share of patents from every manufacturer that produces smart devices containing these patents (including all companies such as Samsung, OPPO, etc.). MediaTek, on the other hand, complains that the figures requested by Huawei are astronomically high. Let’s see who will be right in this case.
