The US embargo also hit artificial intelligence chips. As you know, the USA banned the sale of Nvidia’s H100 artificial intelligence processors to China. Nvidia, on the other hand, is trying to be effective in the Chinese market with H20, which is slowed down in accordance with US embargo rules. However, Huawei offered an artificial intelligence processor alternative called Ascend 910C for the Chinese market.
Will Huawei artificial intelligence processor 910C void the US embargo?
Nvidia, OpenAi and Microsoft’s huge revenues thanks to artificial intelligence have whetted the appetite of all technology companies. China does not want to be left behind in the artificial intelligence revolution led by the USA. However, the USA banned the sale of Nvidia H100 processors to China. This caused China to find different solutions. It seems that Chinese companies, which have previously converted old graphics cards, will get rid of this problem thanks to Huawei.
According to the emerging details, Huawei has developed an artificial intelligence chip called Ascend 910C. As you know, Huawei has the ability to produce processors up to 7nm level in partnership with SMIC, despite all US embargoes. In this sense, Huawei seems to have used this infrastructure to prevent Chinese companies from being left behind in the artificial intelligence revolution.
Details about the performance of this artificial intelligence processor are not yet clear. However, it turned out that giant companies such as ByteDance, Baidu and China Mobile, the owner of TikTok, started to order this processor from Huawei. In this sense, it is among the details that emerged that Huawei marketed the 910C as having similar performance to the H100.
It is also a matter of curiosity whether the Huawei artificial intelligence chip will be used outside China. In this sense, the Ascend 910C artificial intelligence processor will begin to be shipped to customers in October. It was also revealed that Huawei initially received 70 thousand orders for the processor. It is expected that Huawei will earn a huge income of $2 billion from these orders.
Nvidia, on the other hand, does not want to leave a large market like China. However, the US embargo ties the hands and feet of many companies. Even ByteDance, one of the world’s largest social media companies, Baidu, China’s Google, and China Mobile, one of the world’s largest telecommunications companies, may be enough for Huawei to generate significant revenue. It is also among the first information to emerge that many China-based technology companies are waiting in line for this processor.
Huawei first reproduced its own processor, and now it is turning its hand to the real money-making side of artificial intelligence. Do you think the company can neutralize the US embargo this way? We are waiting for your comments.
