An important change was made with the implementation of the regulation called GSR II regulation, which requires new cars sold in the market to have more standard safety equipment.
It was announced that the regulation implemented by the Ministry of Industry and Technology will come into force as of July 7, 2024. With the amendment published in the Official Gazette, this date was postponed to 31 August 2024. Thus, additional time was given to brands trying to reduce their vehicle stocks.
While the second sentence of note B of the regulation reads “Implementation date for a newly manufactured vehicle, component or separate technical unit with type approval: 7/7/2024”, vehicle categories have now been added and “For vehicle categories M1, N1, O1 and O2 with type approval available” The implementation date for the newly manufactured vehicle, component and separate technical unit has been changed to 31 August 2024.
In new new cars to be sold with GSR II, equipment such as smart speed assistance, lane tracking assistant, alcohol lock preparation, accident data recorder, blind spot warning, emergency braking assistant, rear view camera and driver fatigue detection will be mandatory. Until the regulation comes into force, brands are trying to sell base models that do not contain these equipment.
Moving the application from July 7 to August 31 gives brands approximately 2 months of time. It seems that campaign wars will continue in the coming period.
