Apple rolled out new software updates for almost all AirPods models and some Beats devices on Tuesday. This update may bring significant improvements and bug fixes to the user experience.
Which devices do Apple’s new updates cover?
AirPods Max, AirPods 2, AirPods 3, and the original AirPods Max have received a software update with build number 6A326. The original AirPods received software version 6.8.8, and AirPods Pro 2 received the 6.8.8 update. At the same time, an update with build number 6F8 was also released for Beats Fit Pro and Powerbeats Pro.
Apple hasn’t released any release notes for this latest software update, which means the update likely includes minor bug fixes and other quality improvements. A more comprehensive firmware update is expected later this year with the release of iOS 18.
How to update AirPods software?
The new software update is installed automatically because there is no mechanism that allows users to manually force the update. As long as the AirPods are in a charging case and connected to an iOS device, the software update will install automatically.
How to check AirPods software version?
AirPods users can check their audio accessory’s current firmware within the Settings app:
- Settings open the app
- Generalselect
- Aboutselect
- When your AirPods are connected to your device and active, when you scroll down the page you will see your AirPods, click on it.
- You will see a screen showing the relevant device information.
This update from Apple promises bug fixes and performance improvements for almost all AirPods models and select Beats devices. Users should charge their devices regularly and keep them connected to their iOS devices to ensure updates are installed automatically.
