On August 2, 2024, BTK blocked access to Instagram within the scope of catalog crimes. According to information obtained from sources close to the government, an access ban was imposed on Instagram because messages supporting Haniyeh were removed by the platform. Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu said, “If our social sensitivity is taken into consideration, we will remove the access block of Instagram.”
My decisions about when the Instagram access ban will be lifted, the sanctions to be applied to Meta, and whether other social media platforms will be banned are expected to be clarified at the Cabinet Meeting. President Erdoğan will make a statement after the meeting.
