Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Uraloğlu made a statement that an agreement was reached with Instagram:
We have reached a certain point, I want to share them with you. First of all, in terms of legal compliance and content removal, the blockage will be removed immediately after the work to be done to remove the content and posts that are among the catalog crimes within the scope of the laws of the Republic of Turkey. In this context, compliance with the Turkish legal system will be ensured and a rapid and effective intervention will be carried out in case of violation of the law.
In terms of user rights and account security, user rights of social media bans belonging to citizens of the Republic of Turkey will be fully protected. Accounts will not be closed without any warning. In addition, accounts that were closed or locked without warning will be accessible again, and a fair implementation process will be managed by taking into account the rights of our citizens regarding deleted accounts.
Again, regarding the fight against terrorism, which our country is very sensitive about, the necessary care will be taken to remove accounts belonging to terrorist organizations such as PKK, PYD and FETO, and all content containing propaganda in favor of the organizations, by the Meta platform. In addition, security and public order will be protected by adopting an effective approach to combating terrorist propaganda and illegal content.
Within these regulations, significant gains and significant progress have been made towards increasing security in the digital environment in Turkey, legal compliance, protection of user rights and the development of a fair control mechanism, and it is expected that Meta platform officials will soon visit Turkey with wider participation and at a high level. I would like to take this opportunity to inform you. Again, the necessary procedures regarding the catalog crimes reported to the Meta platform have been completed. It will continue to be implemented carefully from now on.“
