Following the closure of Instagram last week and Roblox yesterday, all eyes turned to TikTok. Hüseyin Yayman, Chairman of the Turkish Grand National Assembly Digital Media Commission, stated in his latest statement that citizens want the social media platform to be closed. So, will TikTok really be shut down?
Hüseyin Yayman, Chairman of the Turkish Grand National Assembly Digital Media Commission, said that TikTok is a national security issue for Türkiye. Stating that the posts made on the platform are strange and far from reality, Yayman stated that it is never possible to approve them.
Addressing the issue of whether TikTok will be closed or not, Yayman said that they, as a commission, have no stance on blocking access to the platform and emphasized that the ball is in the court of the Information Technologies Authority (BTK).
Expanding on this issue further, the chairman of the commission underlined that politics is done together with the nation and stated that citizens want TikTok to be closed.
TikTok has been on the agenda lately with the trend of hugging Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Republic of Turkey. In this context, many users share videos of themselves hugging Atatürk using artificial intelligence. While these posts receive appreciation from some people, they receive harsh reactions from others on the grounds that they disrespect the founder of our country.
Instagram broke its silence regarding the access block in Turkey. Here is the statement made by the platform.
So what do you think about this issue? Do you think TikTok should be shut down? Don’t forget to share your opinions with us in the comments section below!
