According to the US Department of Justice letter shared by The Washington Post, Assange specifically pleads guilty to “conspiring to unlawfully obtain and disseminate classified information relevant to the national defense of the United States.” The WikiLeaks founder will return to Australia, where he is a citizen, after the completion of the trial process.
Although US Department of Justice prosecutors requested a 62-month prison sentence; Assange will not spend any time behind bars in the US, having been imprisoned in the UK for more than five years.
