Microsoft aims to replace these services with the new Outlook. Since the new Outlook is designed as a Progressive Web App (PWA), users will need to store their IMAP login information on Microsoft servers.
These changes will begin with restrictions in July and will be completed by September 2024. From then on, users will only be able to view existing emails and calendar entries. Sending and receiving mail functions will be disabled. Additionally, support for Windows Mail, Calendar, and Contacts apps will end on December 31.
With these plans, Microsoft is forcing users to switch to the new Outlook. Those who continue to use old Windows applications will experience serious loss of functionality.
