Netflix comes up with a big innovation in the sports world. The company announced a live hot dog eating contest, an event it has never done before. In this competition, two big names of this sport, Joey Chestnut and Takeru Kobayashi, will face each other. The show is called “Chestnut vs. Kobayashi: Unfinished Beef” and is described as the “ultimate hot dog eating contest.”
The program will be broadcast live on Netflix on Monday, September 2. The announcement of this event comes just days after Nathan’s hot dog eating contest banned Chestnut from the iconic 4th of July contest. Chestnut was banned from the competition after signing a deal with vegan food company Impossible Foods, a decision that sparked outrage on social media. Many people announced that they would boycott the Nathan’s event.
Following the Nathan’s competition, Netflix announced the “Unfinished Beef” event featuring Chestnut and his longtime rival Kobayashi. Chestnut has won the Nathan’s contest 16 times and won first place in 2023 by eating 62 hot dogs in 10 minutes. Additionally, he holds the world record by eating 76 hot dogs in 2021. Kobayashi has eaten more than 10,000 hot dogs throughout his life. At one time, he was only defeated by a Kodiak bear.
Chestnut and Kobayashi have been longtime rivals, but Kobayashi recently announced his retirement due to health issues. The two athletes haven’t faced each other directly in an eating contest since 2009. The Netflix deal convinced Kobayashi to come out of retirement.
“In my competitive eating career, Kobayashi has always been my toughest opponent,” Chestnut told Netflix. “Competing with her has pushed me to get even better. I know fans have been waiting a long time for another installment of our rivalry, and I can’t wait for our big showdown live on Netflix.” . It’s time to give the people what they want!” said.
“Unfinished Cattle” stands out as the latest live sports event on Netflix. Other major events such as Netflix Cup and Netflix Slam were held before this event. The next big event will be the Jake Paul and Mike Tyson fight in November. This event will be followed by this year’s Christmas Day NFL matches and weekly WWE Raw events starting in 2025.
While you wait for ” Chestnut vs. Kobayashi: Unfinished Beef ,” you can watch the documentary “30 for 30: The Good, The Bad, and the Hungry” on Netflix.
