Logitech announced the G515 Lightspeed TKL Wireless, a new gaming keyboard that features upgraded low-profile switches that are compatible with Cherry MX-style keycaps and increases the keyboard’s customizability.
The G515 can be described as an improved version of Logitech’s G915 Lightspeed Wireless keyboard, released in 2019. The new G515 features a TKL (no touch button) design similar to the smaller Logitech G915 TKL update from 2020. This completely eliminates not only the G915’s number pad, but also the large volume wheel found on it.
The new G515 continues to use the company’s GL mechanical switches. When these switches debuted on the G915 almost five years ago, they were understood to be tweaked versions of Kailh’s Choc V1 low-profile switches. This made it difficult to customize and replace them with alternative keycaps.
Logitech is offering an updated design for its GL mechanical switches for the G515, featuring a “polyoxymethylene (POM), cross-style body” that makes the keyboard compatible with low-profile Cherry MX-style keycaps.
Unlike the G915 Lightspeed Wireless keyboard, which gave users a choice of three switch types (linear, tactile, and clicky), the new G515 only comes in quieter tactile and linear options, with 45g and 43g of actuation force respectively. In addition, users are offered white or black finish color options with matching double-shot PBT keycaps, each with individual RGB lighting supporting 16.8 million colors, customizable via the Logitech G HUB app.
Logitech G515 has three different connection options
The G515 supports three different ways to connect to a computer or other devices: Bluetooth, USB-C, or the company’s proprietary 2.4GHz Lightspeed technology. Choosing the latter offers a more reliable connection with improved wireless performance. While it requires the use of an included USB dongle, only one is needed to connect two Logitech Lightspeed devices, potentially freeing up space on a USB port.
When using the keyboard wirelessly with the Lightspeed dongle, battery life goes up to 625 hours with RGB lighting turned off. That drops to 120 hours with RGB lighting set to 50 percent brightness, or just 36 hours with brightness set to 100 percent.
You have to pay 139 dollars for Logitech G515.
