Erangel Classic will recreate the old-school battlefield from the game’s inception for a limited two-week run in May and June.

He says his map will reproduce the concepts, graphics, atmosphere and user interface of the original. However, it will blend them with “modern tweaks” to deliver the “enjoyable gaming experiences players have become accustomed to.” In other words, as with other remasters of classic games, the goal is to feel as close to the original as possible without ignoring all the subtle quality of life improvements that have come from the game’s evolution.
Fortnite broke the player count record late last year by bringing back the original 2018 island map (44.7 million had had his biggest day yet by reaching out to the actor). It’s easy to see why Krafton wanted to be a part of the action.

Specific references to the original map include foggy and rainy weather, which adds an unpredictable atmosphere. You’ll also find spare weapons on the starting island (be prepared to fight for your favorite weapon), and all weapons will have reduced recoil compared to the original. Also included in the care package will be a Tommy Gun, a retro map interface, and “a charmingly tacky font and graphics.”
