Meta announced that it has brought new features to the Messenger application, one of the popular messaging options. Among these innovations, HD video calling, advanced noise cancellation and artificial intelligence-supported backgrounds stand out. These features aim to make Messenger more competitive with rival applications Google Meet, Zoom and FaceTime.
HD video calling feature is enabled by default for calls made over Wi-Fi. For calls made with mobile data, it is possible to manually turn on this feature from the “Call Settings” menu. Users can adjust noise canceling settings or change audio output from the same menu. Meta states that it will also allow users to leave audio or video messages.
Platforms such as Google Meet, Zoom and FaceTime have been offering such features for many years. Backgrounds created with artificial intelligence are a function that Zoom and Meet users are especially familiar with. Those who want to use this feature in Messenger can benefit from artificial intelligence support by tapping the effects icon in the sidebar during a call and describing the background they want in a text box. Meta has gradually made its artificial intelligence-based visual creation technology available in Messenger chats, Facebook and Instagram.
Meta Messenger brings “hands-free” experience to its users
Another innovation announced by Meta is the hands-free calling and messaging feature that works integrated with Apple’s Siri voice assistant. Users can make calls or send messages by adding “using Messenger” to Siri. This command makes Siri prefer Meta’s app over Apple’s built-in calling and messaging services.
