Microsoft restructured the Copilot service and launched it under the name Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat. While this new version offers free GPT-supported chat, it also provides access to artificial intelligence agents that are charged based on usage. This move aims to make it easier for businesses to integrate artificial intelligence technologies into their business processes.
“This is a free and secure GPT-powered AI chat solution,” said Jared Spataro, Microsoft’s Workplace AI Marketing Manager. “We are in a very strong competitive position with features such as file uploading,” he said. Although Spataro did not mention the names of the competitors, this statement is considered to be a reference to OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini platforms.
Copilot Chat is a rebranded version of the service previously known as Bing Chat Enterprise. As an important innovation, it is possible to access artificial intelligence agents directly via the chat interface. These agents can work like a virtual assistant, with functions such as tracking email or automating business processes. Users can create their own agents through Copilot Studio and configure them based on web data or on-premises data such as Microsoft Graph. Agent usage is measured via Azure and priced with a pay-as-you-go model.
Microsoft offers a system that charges per message for the use of artificial intelligence agents. For example, a simple reply is priced as one message, while productive replies are priced as two messages. A response working with in-house data is considered as 30 messages. The cost of a message is set at 1 cent. This pricing model operates through the Microsoft Azure Consumption Commitment (MACC) system.
How much should I pay for Microsoft Copilot Chat?
For example, when an AI agent answering questions about a company’s human resources policies provides 200 productive answers and 200 Microsoft Graph-based answers in a day, this costs a total of 6,400 messages, or $64. This flexible pricing model allows businesses to scale the use of AI according to their needs.
Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat is designed to make businesses’ business processes more efficient. The platform has capabilities such as summarizing Word documents or analyzing Excel data. However, users who want to get the full Microsoft 365 Copilot experience must pay a monthly subscription fee of $30. Microsoft states that Copilot Chat has been rapidly adopted by businesses. Spataro emphasized that the platform attracted attention even with its previous name, and that users used these solutions more frequently as they realized the value.
