Microsoft is rolling out full passkey support for all individual user accounts. This support was activated in Windows 11 last year. Passkeys can now be created on other versions of Windows, iOS and Android. In this way, it will be possible to easily log in to Microsoft accounts without typing a password every time.
You can create passkeys for your Microsoft accounts by clicking this link. Users can choose one of the options of face, fingerprint, PIN code or security key to log in with the pass key.
Vasu Jakkal, Microsoft’s corporate vice president of security, compliance and identity, said in a statement: “There is now a passkey to sign in to Microsoft apps and websites, including Microsoft 365 and Copilot, on desktop and mobile browsers.” you can use Support for signing in to mobile versions of Microsoft apps using your passkey will be available in the coming weeks.”
The passkeys represent a major milestone in Microsoft’s efforts to move towards a password-free future. Microsoft first introduced Windows Hello authentication with Windows 10 in 2015, making it possible to log in to a computer via face, fingerprint or PIN. Microsoft later began supporting FIDO security keys in April 2018, and then added a completely passwordless option for Microsoft accounts in 2021.
Toggle switches have now become the industry norm, adopted by Apple, Google, Microsoft and others. Password keys have been used on more than 400 million Google accounts so far. This shows that password keys are a popular alternative to having to use passwords to log in everywhere.
