Microsoft announced that it is working on a new Windows API that will allow game developers to seamlessly integrate super-resolution AI-upscaling features from Nvidia, AMD, and Intel into their games.
Microsoft teams up with graphics giants to improve PC games
In the statement made by program manager Joshua Tucker, Microsoft’s new DirectSR APIIt was stated that ‘s is the “missing link” between games and super resolution technologies, and it was stated that this API “will provide a smoother and more efficient experience that can be scaled across various hardware”.
The DirectSR API provides a common set of inputs and outputs to enable various solutions such as Nvidia DLSS Super Resolution, AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution, and Intel XeSS. The aim is for developers to support this DirectSR API instead of writing separate code for each upgrade technology.
A few weeks ago, the “Automatic Super Resolution” feature was noticed in the test version of Windows 11. This feature promised to provide smoother gameplay and improved details of supported games with AI. Now, it looks like this feature will be connected to existing super resolution technologies such as DLSS, FSR and XeSS.
Microsoft notes that the new API will be available soon via a preview version of the Agility SDK. Moreover, March 21will take place in Game A “preview” of how DirectSR can be used will be held at the Developers Conference (GDC), and this session will include representatives from Nvidia and AMD along with Microsoft.
With this new step, Microsoft can bring important innovations in graphics and performance for PC games. What do you think about this development? You can write your opinions in the comments section below.
