Social media usage is increasing day by day for individuals of all ages, from 7 to 70. However, this situation brings with it some important problems, especially in children. For this reason, the Republic of Türkiye has been preparing to restrict the use of social media for people under a certain age limit. Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu made striking statements on this issue.

Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu Spoke About the Social Media Restriction to be Applied to Children
Speaking in a program he attended on CNN Turk, Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu explained that this practice has been on the agenda of many countries recently and that they are also discussing this issue. Stating that no clear steps have been taken yet, Uraloğlu announced that they will ban the use of social media by individuals under the age of 13.
In his statement, Uraloğlu also mentioned that his opinion is to impose a 16-year age limit, and stated that users between the ages of 13-16 can get permission from their families for social media use. Accordingly, citizens will not be able to use social media for the first 16 years of their lives unless their family consents.
Regarding age restrictions on social media, restrictions have been made and are being made around the world, using 13 and 16 years of age as criteria.
My personal opinion is that it is 16 years old, but no decision has been made yet. We are meeting with relevant Ministries and institutions.
Our plan is to not have access for those under the age of 13, but for those aged 13-16… pic.twitter.com/tPlJI0gPPe

Stating that they also met with the relevant platforms on the subject, the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure underlined that applications such as Instagram specifically for children, just like YouTube’s Kids service, are also on the agenda. While it is not yet known when the application will be implemented, it is a matter of curiosity how companies such as Instagram will react.
As you know, the number of harmful content on social media is increasing day by day. For example, we recently mentioned that the OnlyFans star was included in the top 10 of YouTube’s list of the best content producers of 2024. The regulation aims to protect children from such content and content creators.
