Mosquitoes may soon be used as vaccine delivery vehicles

A new era may begin with genetic modification of the malaria parasite

The research team focused on using mosquitoes, commonly known as disease carriers, for a beneficial purpose. The study focuses on the main cause of malaria: Plasmodium falciparum contains a genetically modified version of the parasite. This modified parasite, called GA2, unlike the normal malaria parasite, does not cause disease but instead causes disease. strengthens the immune system.

However, this innovative approach has some challenges to overcome before it can be put into widespread use. Transferring the parasites cultured on human blood cells in the laboratory to mosquitoes and making these mosquitoes ready as vaccine carriers takes approximately two weeks continues. This makes large-scale applications difficult.
