Disney, which also introduced Mufasa: The Lion King during the D23 fair this week, shared a new trailer from the movie.
Mufasa: The Lion King Will Be Released on December 20
Although Mufasa: The Lion King is a sequel, most of the story actually takes place before the first movie. At the center of the story is Simba’s father, Mufasa, whom he lost in the first movie. Simba, the king of Tanzania’s Pride Lands, tells the story of his father Mufasa to his children.
Jon Favreau, the name behind the first film, is not involved in the project this time. Mufasa: The Lion King is directed by Barry Jenkins, who made two award-winning films, Moonlight and If Beale Street Could Talk. It is a matter of curiosity what kind of work Jenkins, which we are not used to seeing in this genre, does.
The voice cast of the film includes names such as Donald Glover, Seth Rogen, Billy Eichner, John Kani, Beyoncé, Aaron Pierre, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Mads Mikkelsen, Thandiwe Newton.
