In recent months, the European Union has pressured Apple to make its operating system more open, and as a result, it has won. As a result of the pressure, Apple provided various advantages for users in the European Union. In the Apple article published today iOS It is said that iPhone NFC use will be opened outside EU countries with 18.1.
Payments can be made via NFC from iPhone outside the European Union
A few months ago, Apple allowed the use of NFC, except for Apple Pay, for European Union countries. After this update, users in countries that do not have Apple Pay, including Turkey, asked Apple to allow 3rd party applications to use NFC. Apple responded to this with the article it published yesterday and announced that developers in countries without Apple Pay will be able to perform in-app NFC transactions using the Secure Element API with iOS 18.1.
Starting with iOS 18.1, developers will be able to perform NFC payment transactions from iPhone, separately from Apple Pay and Wallet. Using the new NFC and Secure Element APIs, developers will now be able to provide users with many features such as in-store payments, car keys, public transport cards, hotel keys, reward cards and event tickets. This situation will not be limited to iPhones only. Thanks to Apple’s newly developed APIs, developers will be able to integrate the above features into Apple Watch. However, a compatible watchOS version will be expected to be released first.
One of the most important issues for Apple Privacy and Security Let’s not forget that it is. The company will allow the use of the new NFC and Secure Element APIs by going through a series of processes with its own servers. Therefore, in order for developers to use this new solution, an agreement must be made with Apple to request NFC and Secure Element rights, and a fee must be paid to Apple. The company will allow developers who accept its terms to use NFC in payment methods in 3rd party applications with iOS 18.1. Currently, this will initially be available to developers in Australia, Brazil, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, the UK, and the US.
So what do you think about this issue? Will 3rd party payment or Apple Pay come to Turkey? Please don’t forget to share your thoughts with us in the comments section below.
