According to a recent report by The Information, OpenAI is likely Microsoft’s Bing search engine A new “to use as a basis”web search product” is working on. Although OpenAI has not officially confirmed these plans, ChatGPT’s efforts to expand its information and web browsing capabilities indicate the company is moving towards a more contextual, conversational approach to search.
However, it is unclear whether the web search product allegedly developed will be a separate service from ChatGPT. Additionally, the possibility of leveraging Bing is in line with Microsoft’s major investments in OpenAI in recent years. As it is known, Microsoft has already incorporated OpenAI’s technologies into products such as Bing web search and Copilot. Leveraging the strengths of the two companies, OpenAI’s search product not only can take a knowledge-based approach rather than traditional search engines that focus on keywords and links.
If OpenAI does indeed launch a search product independent of ChatGPT, it would be its most direct challenge to Google yet. On the other hand, it is also important whether OpenAI’s product will be superior to Google’s. Even though Microsoft combined Bing and artificial intelligence, it could not capture a significant share from Google. Moreover, Google has been criticized for poor quality search results in recent years.
