Ellison, who owns Skydance Media, is about to buy the company behind big movies like The Godfather, Top Gun, Mission: Impossible and Star Trek. Skydance was a financial partner in projects such as Top Gun: Maverick. Skydance is buying National Amusements, which holds a controlling stake in Paramount, for $2.4 billion, according to Reuters.
According to the Times, Paramount has faced financial difficulties due to the streaming service into which it has invested billions of dollars. Paramount+ has yet to turn a profit despite launching an advertising plan. Earlier this year, the media giant laid off 800 employees, including employees at Paramount+. David Ellison, son of Oracle founder Larry Ellison, plans to continue investing and working in the streaming service.
Ellison plans to rebuild Paramount+’s technology and improve its recommendation algorithm, which helps users find new shows, using modern infrastructure. He also aims to reduce costs and increase efficiency by collaborating with his father’s company. Jeff Shell, who will be president of the combined company, told the Times that Paramount+ will partner with other streaming services and make package deals. The aim is to reduce costs and enable customers to maintain their subscriptions. Shell said it had already received calls from “different potential partners” and would consider deals that would enable the service to gain “further scale”.
The merger is expected to be completed next year, after which the new Paramount will be valued at $28 billion.
Paramount+, which does not operate in our country, offers various subscription packages that appeal to various needs and preferences:
Essential Plan: This plan costs $5.99 monthly or $59.99 annually. This plan gives access to over 40,000 episodes and movies with limited ads. However, it does not provide access to the local live CBS station but does offer access to live sports events on CBS such as NFL matches and UEFA Champions League matches.
Premium Plan with Showtime: This plan costs $11.99 monthly or $119.99 annually. In addition to everything in the Essential plan, it offers live access to the local CBS station, downloadable content for offline viewing, and live TV and ad-free content except for some shows.
Promotional Offers: Paramount+ often offers promotional offers like 25% off monthly rates or savings on annual plans. New subscribers can also take advantage of a free trial period to explore the service before committing.
The service also provides a variety of features such as access to live TV, exclusive original series, movies and sports content. Parental control and profile management allow parents to create personalized profiles for their children, providing a family-friendly viewing experience.
