Precautions against artificial intelligence from Youtube

YouTube allows users to request the removal of AI-generated content with a new policy it quietly added last month. This new privacy violation policy, spotted by a news site, allows you to spot videos containing “synthetic content modified or created by artificial intelligence that looks or sounds like you.”

It states that YouTube will consider multiple factors when deciding whether to remove content. These factors include whether the content is modified or synthetic (and whether this is stated), whether the person is easily identifiable, or whether the content is realistic.

The company will also consider whether the content could be considered parody or satire. Another factor is whether the content includes a “sensitive act” by a public figure or public figure, such as committing a crime, committing violence, or endorsing a product or political candidate. TechCrunch emphasizes that this factor is quite important in this critical election year.

The new policy falls under privacy violations, not YouTube’s misleading content rules. The company requires first-party claims in most cases. The most notable exceptions are when the individual is a minor, does not have access to a computer, or is deceased.

YouTube expects the person or organization receiving the complaint to take action within 48 hours. If content is removed during this time, the file is closed. Otherwise, YouTube will review the complaint.

The document states that removing content means removing it completely (and including removing the person’s name and personal information from the title, description and tags). Blurring faces is also offered as another option. It is also explained that making content private is not allowed because this would allow the content owner to easily make it public again.

YouTube hasn’t made a big announcement about this change, but it did hint at it when announcing its policies on AI-generated videos earlier this year. “As we previously announced, we continue to work on an updated privacy process to remove AI-generated or otherwise altered content that simulates a recognizable individual, face or voice,” it said at the time.
