Samsung developed a carbon footprint tracking method

Samsung announced that it has developed a new method to measure and reduce the carbon footprint of internet-connected devices. This method, developed especially for connected devices such as smartphones, tablets and smart watches, aims to more accurately measure greenhouse gas emissions during the use of devices. Features and goals of the new method

According to data shared by Samsung, internet-connected devices consume approximately 500 terawatt hours (TWh) of energy annually worldwide. This high energy need poses a major challenge for environmental sustainability. Thanks to the method developed within the scope of the DUCD initiative, greenhouse gas emissions of devices can be analyzed in more detail during the use phase. Samsung states that this method will contribute to the development of carbon reduction strategies by providing more accurate data than traditional life cycle assessments.

Inhee Chung, Vice President of Samsung Electronics Corporate Sustainability Center, stated that carbon emissions during the use phase constitute a large part of the carbon footprint of products. Accurately measuring emissions is the first step to managing and reducing them, Chung said. Thus, the importance of such studies in line with the need for environmentally friendly technology is once again revealed.
