It is certain that Apple will introduce the iPhone 16 series in September. Even the fact that Apple Intelligence would be ready in October did not change the company’s plans. While the release schedule continues, it was stated that Samsung and LG have started the production of display panels to be used in the new iPhones.
According to South Korean sources; Apple ordered 80 million panels from Samsung and 43 million panels from LG. The company’s shipment target for its new iPhones this year is estimated to be around 90 million units. This means Apple ordered about 30 percent more panels than its target.
News from the supply chain confirms that both Samsung and LG are currently producing panels normally in line with this order volume. It is underlined that Apple’s large order will make a positive contribution to the financial balance sheets of both companies.
In the supply chain, it is believed that the iPhone 16 series will be the first models to come with Apple Intelligence and will therefore persuade many people to buy a new iPhone. It is stated that this persuasion will return as a “tremendous demand”.
LG will increase its display panel supply by about 10 million compared to last year and will get more than 30 percent of the pie it shares with Samsung. Additionally, this year is said to be the first time LG has carried out its production schedule without delay. This is expected to increase production performance.
In 2022 and 2023, LG’s delays in starting mass production for iPhone OLED panels led to Samsung becoming the sole supplier of the first batch during the launch period.
Samsung produces most of the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max panels
There is no change in the production capacity of Samsung for Apple. However, Samsung has a larger share in the panels of the more expensive Pro and Pro Max models. Therefore, Samsung’s revenues are also expected to increase. It is stated that 60 percent of the orders that Samsung will supply are iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max panels.
