OpenAI recently introduced the SearchGPT tool. The new artificial intelligence-supported search tool aimed to rival classic browsers such as Google. However, he became the center of controversy as soon as he released false information in a promotional video.
SearchGPT returned incorrect information during testing
A test video showcasing SearchGPT’s question-answering capabilities demonstrated the capabilities of the artificial intelligence tool. Accordingly, during the test, the dates of the Appalachian Summer Festival held in the USA were asked. However, instead of saying that the festival will be held between 29 June and 27 July, SearchGPT reported the dates as 29 July – 16 August.
These incorrect dates provided by SearchGPT correspond to when the festival box office is closed, not to actual event dates. The bug was first spotted by The Atlantic and confirmed to have occurred in the test video.
OpenAI wanted to highlight the trustworthiness and transparency of SearchGPT. That’s why the error in the video prepared by the company is quite striking. There are new doubts about SearchGPT’s ability to combine AI with real-time web data.
If OpenAI can turn SearchGPT into a reliable and fast search engine as it wishes, it can gain a place in the artificial intelligence market. This will be seen in the fact that it does not provide incorrect information to users during real tests.
To provide fast and reliable answers to problems, companies such as Google and Microsoft are updating their search engines with artificial intelligence. In this context, OpenAI seems to continue to develop its artificial intelligence search engine.
