An important innovation in Apple’s iOS 17.5 beta version ensures that the Find My and Activation Lock features remain on during the iPhone repair process. Spotted by 9to5Mac and MacRumors, the new “Repair Mode” aims to keep anti-theft measures active while your device is being repaired. This feature aims to protect the security of the device during the repair process.
Apple and its authorized service providers currently require you to turn off Find My before proceeding with the repair process. According to Apple’s support page, this is necessary to “prevent others from having your device repaired without your knowledge.” However, this requirement has become more complex with the introduction of Stolen Device Protection.
When Stolen Device Protection is enabled, you have to wait an hour for certain actions before turning off Find My. If you forget this step before repairing, things can get confusing when you reach the Apple Store. The new Repair Mode aims to make this process easier.
According to 9to5Mac, the new feature allows you to confirm that your device is in repair with your Apple ID and password. This way, you can continue to track your phone from another device. When activated in the Find app, there will be a phrase stating that your device is “Ready for Repair”.
According to this statement, the device will remain “fully functional”. This innovation is an important step to ensure safety during the repair process. Additionally, with iOS 17.5 beta, users will be able to edit the settings before going to the Apple Store.
iOS 17.5 is expected to be released in May. With the update, the option to download applications from the web will also be available for users in the European Union. This new feature aims to improve the user experience in Europe.
