Shopify announces artificial intelligence-focused updates
The company introduced it for the first time last year Sidekicka for sellers support chatbot and helps them do things like create discount codes, create reports about their store, or suggest blog post ideas.
It looks like a pretty typical AI chatbot. But if Shopify continues to adapt its chatbot to fit merchants’ needs, it looks like it will be a useful way to get help or assistance.
executive vice president of Shopify Vanessa Lee, says Sidekick is live in thousands of Shopify stores, but is currently limited to merchants with English-language stores in North America. If you don’t have a Sidekick and want to try it, you can register. Lee says the company wants to make it available in other languages and other regions.
It looks like AI-powered product classification could really save sellers a lot of time. When creating a product listing, Shopify’s technology will be able to automatically suggest the product’s classification. If Shopify’s suggestions aren’t right, you can change things manually.
Another AI tool will offer suggested responses for customer chats coming through Shopify Inbox. Lee says Shopify is open to the possibility of letting customers chat with an AI chatbot that speaks on behalf of the merchant, but for now the company is opting to keep the human in the loop until it’s extremely confident nothing will happen.
Shopify is also bringing the AI-powered visual generator, which launched in January, to its iOS and Android apps, allowing merchants to use it in more places. Additionally, the company says Shopify merchants have saved more than 1 million AI-generated images in six months.
