There hasn’t been a first-person shooter game from PlayStation studios for a long time, so Firewalk Studios’ Concord game has attracted a lot of attention since its announcement. At Sony’s State of Play event, more details about the science fiction game were announced and the first gameplay footage was shown. Concord will be released for PS5 and PC on August 23, with a beta in July. A PlayStation Network account will be needed to play on PC.
When developing Concord, Firewalk Studios focused on tight movement control, precise weapon handling, and a variety of abilities. This is among the features one would expect from a studio led by former Destiny developers. As a hero shooter played in teams of five, it is similar to Overwatch 2 in many ways.
There are 16 characters, namely Freegunners, in the game, each with their own unique abilities. Firewalk designed Concord to appeal to all types of players; Regardless of their different playstyles and skill levels, there is at least one or two Freegunners characters for every player that they can easily get used to.
Players can throw explosive blades, release speed-boosting spores, place a healing pad, create a wall of fire, or block off an entire path with a wall. Some of these abilities are permanently available on the map between game rounds and on respawns, while others are designed for more momentary uses.
Concord will offer six different game modes at launch. Firewalk plans to add more game modes, Freegunners characters, maps and cinematic scenes through free post-launch updates. There is huge competition in this genre and in the live service market in general. However, Sony has already had great success with Helldivers 2 this year. Concord has also made a solid impression so far and has a good chance of success. The game, whose beta version will be released in July, will meet PS5 and PC users on August 23.
