With the new regulation published in the past weeks, the sale of vehicles without SCT for disabled individuals has become a matter of discussion in many ways. After the locality requirement for vehicle sales and the increase in the sales period, a new law proposal was prepared that aims to enable disabled citizens to benefit from the Special Consumption Tax exemption on smartphones.
The new proposal, which will ensure that visually and hearing impaired citizens do not pay Special Consumption Tax when purchasing smartphone products, was recently presented to the Turkish Grand National Assembly.
Disabled Citizens Will Be Exempt from SCT Share of Up to 50 Percent on Phone Sales!
The new law proposal, submitted to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey Planning and Budget Commission by CHP Ardahan Deputy Özgür Erdem İncesu, aims to prevent citizens with at least 40 percent vision or hearing impairment from paying Special Consumption Tax (SCT) when purchasing smartphones.
In the proposal, it is stated that individuals will benefit from SCT exemption every 5 years. This means that after a phone purchased without SCT, you will not be able to buy a new phone within the next 5 years within the scope of the law. So, if the bill is approved, how much discount will disabled individuals be able to buy smartphones?
According to the current Special Consumption Tax law, a 25 percent SCT share is collected from phones whose tax-free price does not exceed 1,500 TL, and a 40 percent share of Special Consumption Tax is collected from phones whose price does not exceed 3,000 TL. A 50 percent Special Consumption Tax is applied to the prices of phones over 3,000 TL. In this context, today almost all smartphone models are subject to 50 percent Special Consumption Tax.
In the current table, with the bill submitted to the parliament, we can say that a smartphone with a price of 30 thousand TL can be purchased for approximately 21 thousand 850 TL with the Special Consumption Tax exemption. So what do you think about this issue? Do you think there should be an SCT exemption for smartphones after the regulation for automobiles? Let’s meet in the comments…
