Spotify plans to launch a new premium service with high audio quality soon. According to Bloomberg, this new HiFi add-on will be available for $5 per month in addition to the existing subscription fee and will also include various new features.
Spotify first announced its HiFi plans in 2021, but that launch did not materialize. Now existing Spotify Premium subscribers will be able to add the HiFi level to their existing plan for a total monthly fee of $16.99 (given that the Premium subscription will soon rise to $11.99). Bloomberg’s report notes that this add-on will also include playlist creation tools designed for specific activities, dates, or certain times of the year. Last year, Bloomberg also reported on a higher-priced “Supremium” HiFi plan. Another report suggested that the plugin may come with a remix feature that will allow users to adjust the playback speed of songs.
Codes found within the Spotify app in 2023 gave more clues about the potential features of the HiFi plug-in. These leaked codes hinted that 24-bit lossless audio, AI-powered playlist creation, and a mood-based song filtering tool for playlists might be included. More recently, a Reddit user discovered code within the app that stated “lossless audio is available,” and another user shared leaked UI elements showing that lossless quality can reach up to 2,117 kbps and be available in the 24-bit/44.1kHz FLAC format for certain songs. .
Although the official announcement of Spotify’s new HiFi service has not been made yet, these features that users have been waiting for a while for a high-quality audio experience are expected to be available soon. With this add-on, Spotify aims to offer a superior music experience to its users.
