Spotify is celebrating the 3rd anniversary of EQUAL, its global initiative to support gender equality in music by empowering the work of female artists around the world, in Turkey and around the world. With EQUAL playlists that have exceeded 31 billion streams since 2021, Spotify aims to raise and strengthen the voices of women in the music industry and create more opportunities for female artists. To date, within the scope of EQUAL Turkey, 36 Turkish female artists have become EQUAL ambassadors of the month and more than 200 female artists have been hosted by Spotify in EQUAL Turkey playlists.
Designed to make women’s voices heard and to enable more people to be inspired by them, EQUAL continues to strengthen the voices of female artists. Data published by Spotify once again reveals the increasing success and power of female artists in Turkey:
- Since EQUAL Turkey was launched in 2021, the listening rate of female artists in Turkey on Spotify has increased by 140 percent.
- The number of streams of female artists in Turkey on Spotify’s editorial playlists increased by 36 percent in 2023 compared to 2022.
- The number of female artists in Turkey’s Top 50 list for 2023 has increased by over 110 percent since 2021, which is an indication that female artists continue to significantly increase their presence in the Top lists.
- Among the playlists created by users, there was a more than 50 percent increase in the listening rates of female artists from 2022 to 2023.
- Since 2021, the listening rates of female artists in Turkey outside Türkiye have increased significantly by 130 percent.

Turkey’s leading female artists and important stakeholders of the music industry attended the invitation given by Spotify to celebrate the 3rd anniversary of EQUAL Turkey and to hold a special Masterclass session for artists and production companies in Turkey, as well as all over the world. At the invitation, a panel focusing on the power of female voices in the Turkish music scene took place, with the participation of the iconic name of pop, Nilüfer, who was selected as the global EQUAL ambassador of the month for the first time with a Turkish song with her song “Kara Gözüsü Hasretinden”. In the panel moderated by İpek Atcan, Nilüfer, one of the influential names of pop music, as well as the artist Paptircem, who is featured in Spotify’s RADAR Turkey program, and the artist Paptircem, who aims to strengthen diversity and creativity in the music scene and also dreams of a polyphonic world where gender equality is the norm, will be present. Beril Sarıaltun, Founder and Director of social enterprise Kreşendo, also took part.
