Startup developing medical device solutions with advanced mechanical, electronic and sensing technologies: Legna Medical Technology

Founded by Onur Tekeli and Özgür Er in 2020, Legna Medikal Teknoloji operates in the medical device industry as an enterprise based in Teknopark Istanbul. The company focuses specifically on gastroenterology, general surgery and oncology by combining advanced mechanical, electronic and sensing technologies.

StomB project

One of Legna’s most important projects is the device called StomB, developed for colostomy and ileostomy patients. Every year, hundreds of thousands of patients undergo ostomy surgery due to cancer, accidents or injuries and have to use an ostomy bag for the evacuation process. This situation causes problems such as leakage, odor and noise that negatively affect daily life.

StomB aims to eliminate these problems by making evacuation voluntary. The device helps patients regain their self-confidence and freedom of social life, while restoring a high quality of life. StomB, which received invention approval with A grade from the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), has been patented in many regions such as Europe, America, China, Japan and India.

Legna’s team consists of 4 experienced professionals: In addition to the founding partners Jerry Fink CEO, Omar Elrabie He serves as the Finance Director.

Legna began development of the StomB project with its founding in 2020. The first working prototype was completed in 2023, and improvements were made to the device and its final version was developed. StomB is aimed to be introduced to the global market within 18 months. In addition, clinical studies and production activities are carried out in Türkiye and the USA. Legna plans to complete clinical studies and begin the FDA approval process, thanks to the collaboration with Cleveland Clinic in the near future. This process will pave the way for StomB to be widely used in the global market.

Investments and income model

Legna has successfully completed two investment rounds to date. Angel investors among their investors Semih Koçak ve Kozon Partners is available. The company moves forward with a revenue model based on B2B and B2G based product sales.

Legna Medical Technology aims to both improve the quality of life of patients and facilitate the work of healthcare professionals with its innovative approach in the healthcare sector. With FDA approval and expanding collaboration networks, the company aims to gain a strong position in the global market.
