Tesla announced that it has postponed the launch of its long-awaited Robotaxi by a few months. Elon Musk had announced three months ago that this innovative vehicle would be introduced at a special event on August 8, but the launch has now been shifted to October. This delay was made to provide additional time for engineers to perfect the prototype.
Tesla postponed the release of Robotaxi to October
Tesla’s Robotaxi technology will use multiple cameras, ultrasonic sensors and a forward-facing radar that can see its surroundings in 360 degrees. Elon Musk has previously stated that this self-driving taxi will have a “futuristic” design without a steering wheel and pedals. He also claimed that the Robotaxi service would offer passengers a “lower cost per kilometer than they have ever experienced before,” which could be even cheaper than subsidized bus or metro tickets.
Musk’s goal of launching a Robotaxi service has been on the agenda for a long time. Musk, who first expressed this idea eight years ago, has recently put this ambitious project in front of his efforts to develop an electric car that is even cheaper than Tesla’s most affordable vehicle, the Model 3. However, the launch dates for Tesla’s Robotaxi project have been postponed before. In 2019, Musk said that autonomous robotaxis would be put into operation in 2020, and two years ago he announced that mass production of the vehicle would begin this year, but these goals did not come true.
Tesla managed to preview Robotaxi’s features in the Tesla application. Screenshots show that many features found in a normal sharing application are also included here. Users can see on the map that the vehicle is heading towards its destination and can adjust the internal temperature of the Robotaxi before the vehicle arrives.
Ultimately, regulators will decide where and when Tesla can offer its Robotaxi service. Rival companies like Waymo and Cruise have faced major challenges establishing their limited-sharing services in several states, and Uber abandoned plans to offer the same type of autonomous service after hitting a pedestrian in Arizona in 2020.
Tesla Robotaxi continues to create excitement with its new launch date. This service, which draws attention with the development of technology and innovative features, aims to revolutionize the autonomous taxi market with its affordable cost and high performance. The launch, which will take place in October, will allow us to see the results of this major technology move by Tesla.
