US -based electric car manufacturer Tesla, Model S and Model X in China stopped sales. The company’s official website in China has been removed for these two models. The company has not yet made a statement to the public about this amendment.
Tesla does not sell these models in the Chinese market anymore
Model S and Model X have been at a low level for a long time due to sales performance in China, import taxes and delivery times. These vehicles are produced in the USA and imported to China. The high tax rates imposed by the Chinese government have significantly increased the sales price of these models compared to Chinese competitors.
With the latest regulations, the tax rate for US origin imports rose up to 84 percent. This increase further weakened the current model S and Model X’s competitiveness in the Chinese market, which is already expensive.
For Tesla customers in China, the delivery time of these models had varied between 3 and 8 months. The long waiting time and the increasing total cost have thoroughly reduced the charm of these models.
However, the model 3 and Model Y, which is produced at Tesla’s Gigafactory facility in Shanghai, will remain on sale. These two models are offered at much more affordable prices in China thanks to the advantage of domestic production and delivery processes are shorter.
In the first quarter of 2025 Tesla delivered a total of 336,681 vehicles worldwide. 323,800 of these deliveries consisted of model 3 and model Y models. The total number of delivery of Model S, Model X and Cybertruck models was only recorded as 12.881.
Delivery data revealed that Model S and Model X have a small share in the production and sales volume of Tesla on a global scale. So what do you think about this? You can share your opinions with us in the comments section below.
