The European Union is commissioning a new label system for smartphones and tablets. From 20 June 2025; In the boxes of all new telephone and tablet models to be sold in Europe, a special label containing information such as energy efficiency, battery performance, software support and repairability will be compulsory.
EU makes a new label requirement for phones
The new application shows that energy efficiency labels will not be limited to products such as white goods. With this labeling system developed for smart devices, users aim to make more conscious decisions in product preference.
According to the criteria announced by the European Commission; Manufacturers need to produce devices resistant to impacts, dust and water. In addition, the batteries used on the devices, even after at least 800 full charge-sarge cycle, will be able to maintain at least 80 percent of its capacity.
One of the important items of the label system will be repaired. Manufacturers must provide spare parts for seven years after a device has left the sale and obtain these parts within 5 to 10 working days at the latest.
In addition, the support for the after -sales software update will be mandatory. The requirement of updating the devices for at least five years after getting out of the market requires manufacturers to offer long -term support.
The application excludes the products that were sold before 2025. In addition, this new label system is not only limited to the European market, but is expected to become a standard worldwide.
