Astronomers examined this galaxy with the NIRSpec observing instrument and confirmed that the galaxy has a redshift of 14.32. This suggests that it is much older than the most distant galaxy previously discovered.
The JADES-GS-z14-0 galaxy is 1,600 light-years across, and most of this light comes from young stars, not from light emitted by supermassive black holes. This makes us question that the galaxy is quite large and bright, and how a galaxy of this size was formed in such a young universe. The presence of plenty of dust and oxygen in the galaxy also shows that several generations of massive stars completed their lives in the early period.
JADES (JWST Advanced Deep Extragalactic Survey) observations made by JWST (James Webb Space Telescope) revealed that such large and bright galaxies could form much earlier than expected. The galaxy’s size and light intensity have led astronomers to reconsider their expectations of the early universe. JADES-GS-z14-0 shows that galaxy formation may have occurred more rapidly in the early universe.
