Threads custom streaming feature rolled out to all users

Meta’s social media platform Threads has launched its special streaming feature, which it started testing five days ago, for all users. With this new feature, users can follow specific topics and accounts in a single stream, thus providing easier access to the content they are interested in.

To create a custom flow, users can first search for a topic and take action. The “Create a new stream” option can be selected by clicking on the three-dot menu next to the search bar. It is also possible to add more than one topic to the same stream. In the desktop version, a new topic can be added via the same menu. In addition, individual accounts can also be included in private streams. In this way, users can customize their streams completely according to their needs.

This feature stands out as an innovation that Meta introduced in response to the increasing influence of the rival platform Bluesky, which is rapidly gaining popularity. Jay Graber, CEO of Bluesky, announced that their platform has gained more than a million new users per day over the past few days, and as of November 13, the total number of users has increased from 15 million to 20 million. Bluesky is also known to offer a similar private streaming feature.

Threads has much more users than Bluesky

Although Bluesky is growing rapidly, Threads’ user base is still much larger. Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, announced last week that Threads reached more than 15 million new users in November alone and received more than one million registrations daily. This data shows that Meta’s investments in growing Threads have paid off.

It seems that Threads aims to increase the user experience with its custom streaming feature. Such flexible tracking options, especially for topics and accounts, may allow the platform to appeal to a wider user base. However, it is worth remembering that Threads is still unavailable in Turkey.
