According to the statement, instead of a general internal combustion engine to be used by the three companies, each manufacturer will strive to develop its own signature engine. For example; Toyota will focus on the development of new inline four-cylinder engines, Mazda on rotary (Wankel) engines, and Subaru on boxer engines. The new engines will be compatible with a variety of carbon-neutral fuels, such as liquid hydrogen, biofuel and synthetic fuel.
In addition to their promises, companies did not neglect to showcase their new products. At the meeting, the prototype of Crosstrek, equipped with Subaru’s new generation hybrid system, was shown. Toyota, on the other hand, exhibited the Prius prototype equipped with a new 1.5-liter four-cylinder and 2.0-liter engine, which is still under development. Mazda, on the other hand, showed single and double rotor Wankel engines that currently serve as generators to charge the battery in hybrid vehicles.
