The Yakuza series is finally joining the TV series world. Amazon shared the first trailer of the Like a Dragon: Yakuza series as part of the event it organized at Comic-Con. The series, prepared as live action, will be broadcast on Prime Video.
A date has been given for the Like a Dragon: Yakuza series
Like a Dragon: Yakuza series will be about Kazuma Kiryu, the main hero of the series. Japanese actor Ryoma Takeuchi will appear in the role of Kiryu. Kento Kaku, who will play Akira Nishikiyama, is also among the leading roles.
The director of the series is Masaharu Take. Speaking at Comic-Con, Amazon executives said the series will tackle modern Japan and intense character stories that the games haven’t been able to explore. Of course, the details are still unclear, but it looks like viewers will watch the underworld of Yakuza.
The first three episodes of Yakuza will be released on Amazon Prime Video on October 24. We expect to see more videos and trailers from the series by this date. Amazon plans to release the series, shot in Japan and in Japanese, with subtitles and dubbing for international audiences.
Yakuza will continue Amazon’s efforts towards game adaptations. It will compete with other series based on popular games, such as HBO’s The Last of Us and Peacock’s Twisted Metal.
It’s very difficult to keep track of the history and chronology of Sega’s Yakuza games. SEGA, which has been continuing since the original Yakuza in 2005 and released its latest ninth game, Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth, in January 2024, has achieved great success with this game.
